The Board of Trustees of the St. Charles Public Library District voted to hire Kate Buckson as their next Executive Director during their October board meeting.  The decision comes after a nationwide search following the resignation of Edith Craig last April.

Ms. Buckson will begin on November 7.

Ms. Buckson comes to St. Charles from the La Grange Park Public Library District where they’d been  Executive Director for the past seven years.  She’s eager to apply her skills and experience at a larger library.  “St. Charles has a wonderful new building and a fantastic staff,” Buckson said.  “I look forward to building strong and rewarding relationships with the staff, board, and throughout the community.”

The Board appreciated Ms. Buckson’s experience as a library director and marketing background.  They also liked that she prioritizes culture and relationship building.  “That really stood out to me,” Board President Rob Gephart said.  “It’s what she loves most about her current job and it’s something we need here.”  Trustee Mike Hill felt a quote from Ms. Buckson’s cover letter was particularly telling.  “She wrote that she works to provide a positive example of someone who works hard and takes pleasure in their work.  It’s a goal of hers to laugh every day and bring joy to the people around her.  That’s the type of person I want leading our Library.”
