Rolling Meadows Library

The dedicated Trustees of the Rolling Meadows Library (RML) are looking for a forward thinking new Executive Director. Situated among larger libraries like Schaumburg, Palatine and Arlington Heights, the Rolling Meadows Library is “small but stellar.” The three-story, 45,000 square foot building is tucked amongst the homes of a residential area of the city, and the staff often greet regulars by name.  There are 57 employees and the annual operating budget is $4.8 million. RML maintains a stand-alone catalog with popular titles often being “on shelf” for happy, browsing patrons. A new website will soon go live to enhance recent marketing efforts for the library.

The Board of Trustees are

looking for a leader who will actively serve the diverse 24,000 people of Rolling Meadows who hold a lot of civic pride. They want someone who will commit to being the face of the library and build upon established connections with local schools, the park district, and the city.

The library has an active Friends group who manage a popular, ongoing bookstore as well as three, large-scale sales over the year. Donations from the Friends support their well-attended Arts Alive Concert Series and other special events.

The Executive Director reports

to a 9 member Board of Trustees who are appointed by the Mayor to 3-year terms. They participate in events outside of the regular work week to build on established partnerships and serve as a member of local organizations. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, 5 years of related work, and 3 years of supervisory experience.

procedures, and identify underlying hurdles to moving the library into a new era of programs and services. The Executive Director will also be responsible for overseeing the creation of the next strategic plan.

Salary, Benefits & How to Apply

This is a full-time, exempt position with a minimum annual salary of $125,000, based on qualifications and experiences. The Library offers a generous benefits

package including participation in the sought after Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
