Maywood Public Library District
Congratulations to Leighton Shell on being hired as the Executive Director of the Maywood Public Library District!

Mr. Shell's first day is February 21, 2023.
​
Mr. Shell comes to Maywood from Stickney-Forest View where he had worked since 2012 in a variety of positions, including as Director from 2019. He was a Cataloging Librarian at Moraine Valley Community College and a Digital Collections Librarian at the Pritzker Military.
Library. Shell has two Master Degrees, one in Library Science and the other in Telecommunications. He also has military experience as he served on both the Wisconsin Army National Guard and in the United States Army Reserves. He is excited to work with Trustees and Staff who want what is best for the Maywood Public Library District and for the people of Maywood.

The Board appreciated his service in the military and his variety of life and library experiences, including his excellent technology skills. They liked his belief in supporting staff in their work and in their professional growth. Staff members appreciated that he is the type of leader who allows experimentation and allows program and service decisions to be made at the department level.
