The Board of Trustees for the Fossil Ridge Public Library District is looking for a proactive, approachable Director. The ideal candidate is willing to embrace the rural lifestyle of the community and will have strong marketing skills, be flexible when necessary, and build on the strengths of an excellent staff. Fossil Ridge serves 14,803 residents living in seven communities southwest of Joliet, Illinois through its recently renovated main branch and bookmobile. The District employs 17 staff and has a budget of just over $1 million. A key priority for this role is building relationships with the village governments within the district and awareness of library services with all residents.

The Director reports to a 7 member, elected Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and at least 5 years of related work and 2 years of supervisory experience. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, experience promoting services to the residents and stakeholders, knowledge of budgeting and fiscal matters, and strong leadership attributes. Experience with bookmobile services is a plus.  They must provide the proper setting for the recruitment, development, and evaluation of accomplished, customer-friendly employees.

Fossil Ridge is a small but mighty library with a board of trustees serving without personal agendas.  They support their director and the staff.  The staff is dedicated and creative with a strong history of providing outstanding service to their patrons.  Both Trustees and staff are looking for a director to lead them in creating their next strategic plan.

This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary starting at $62,000.00, based on experience. The Library also offers a benefits package including paid sick leave, 3 weeks of vacation after 1 year, competitive health insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
