East Moline Public Library
The East Moline Public Library is a small-but-mighty, community-focused institution. The Board of Trustees is looking for a new Director who will lead them in the development of their next strategic plan and build upon their current positive momentum. They want a civic ambassador willing to be out amongst the people, keeping watch for productive collaborations. Trustees support the Director and champion the staff.
The Library employs 15 staff
and has a budget of $1.2 million. It also contracts with the Hampton Public Library District to provide library services to that community. East Moline is part of the Quad Cities metropolitan area and sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. There are 21,000 increasingly diverse residents including a large retired population.
Spanish-speaking candidates are encouraged to apply. The Staff would love a competent decision-maker who is open to fresh ideas, but clear with directions when a decision has been made. The Library has an active Friends group and is well-known for its excellent forward-facing staff members, for its outstanding audiovisual collection, and for their annual Haunted House. This very popular fall event has been running for seven years and is designed and facilitated by the Library’s dynamic Teen Council in conjunction with the Teen Department Staff.
The Director reports
to an appointed 9-member Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and at least 5 years of related work and 3 years of supervisory experience. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, experience marketing services to stakeholders, experience marketing
services to stakeholders, knowledge of budgeting, and strong leadership attributes. They must cultivate the proper setting for the long-term success of a talented, customer-friendly team.
The Library resides in a renovated
20,000 square foot building in the heart of downtown. The improved space is flooded with light and has room for everybody. There is always something new on display and there is always something fun to partake in–for patrons of all ages. The Staff pride themselves on
keeping things “fresh” and they are always open to trying something different for the benefit of their patrons. Directly adjacent to the Library is Runner’s Park, home to a bandshell perfect for outdoor music and movies. The Park hosts a number of concerts each year and the famous Firecracker Run every Fourth of July.
