
The Downers Grove Public Library
The Downers Grove Public Library is a public library like no other. The Board and Staff have a distinctive culture, a sense of purpose, and a special connection to the community. Trustees are seeking a uniquely qualified Director to honor this legacy while leading the Library into its next chapter. The Library is a vibrant, community-centered institution dedicated to providing

exceptional service, inclusive programming and spaces, and innovative resources for all residents. Known for a welcoming atmosphere and forward-thinking approach, the Director must have the ability to ensure all perspectives are heard and served.The chosen individual will pair a deep commitment to and measurable successes in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) with the political and interpersonal skills necessary to navigate important relationships with the Village, local organizations, schools, and civic groups.

The new Director will lead
and manage the library’s capital improvement goals while operating within the budgetary realities of a public institution and serving as “the face” of the Library to residents, partners, and stakeholders. Most importantly, the successful candidate with proven mentoring and
coaching skills will bring the management, vision, and day-to-day operational expertise required to support the Staff and advance their shared goals. They will maintain a healthy work environment where employees are able to excel and flourish.

There is an active Foundation
supporting Library’s activities including the enhancement of social services. With strong support from residents and a reputation for excellence, the Library continues to be a trusted and beloved cornerstone of the Village and serves a highly engaged community that truly loves its Library.
The Director reports
The Director reports to a 6 member, appointed Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with 8 years of public library experience work and 5 years of managerial work. The candidate must possess a high level of emotional intelligence, keen awareness of government fiscal matters, and strong leadership capabilities.

Salary, Benefits & How to Apply
This is a full-time, exempt position with a hiring range of $138,000.00-$143,000.00, based on professional experiences and accomplishments. The Library also offers a generous benefits package including paid vacation, sick time, medical, dental, and vision insurance at low cost, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
