Due to retirement, the Crete Public Library District is looking for a caring, creative, and confident new Director. The Village of Crete is an extended southeast suburb of Chicago. It is situated in Will County, near Governors State University, and just miles from the Indiana state line. The Library District serves a population of over 18,000 diverse people from a single site in downtown Crete. The building is in excellent shape and a long-term capital improvement study was just completed. The Library regularly employs 28 staff members working with a budget of just over $1.8 million. The chosen leader will coordinate and cooperate with the staff, Board, and stakeholders on designing the Library’s next strategic plan.
The Director reports to a 7 member, elected Board of Trustees. The Board cherishes the Library and their hard-working staff. Crete Public Library District has an excellent Assistant Director already in place who will help onboard the selected candidate. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and at least 5 years of related work and 3 years of supervisory experience. The individual must have proven communication skills, experience marketing services and programming to patrons and local organizations, knowledge of public financial matters, and developed leadership attributes. They must provide the proper setting for the continuing education and evaluation of the existing group of talented and customer-friendly employees. The new Director will embrace the philosophy of servant leadership, be ready to expand community relationships, and build upon the promotion of Library services to residents in outlying areas of the District.
This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary starting at $90,000.00, based on experience and competencies. The Library also offers a generous benefits package including paid sick leave, competitive health insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
