The Board of Trustees of the Morris Area Public Library voted to hire Jackie Hanson during a special meeting called on Monday, May 18 for that purpose.  The decision comes after a nationwide search after previous director Resa Mai left for another library position.

Ms. Hanson will begin on July 1.

Ms. Hanson comes to Morris from the Sauk Valley Community College where she was the Library Coordinator.  She has also worked at the Madison College Library and DeForest Area Historical

Society, both in Wisconsin.  During her time at Sauk Valley, Ms. Hanson developed

library services for the community at large which gave her the motivation to switch to public libraries.  “Meeting the information needs of everyone - all ages and backgrounds - is thrilling and I want my career to focus on doing that,” Hanson said.

The Board appreciated Ms. Hanson’s personality and warmth.  “Jackie is a kind, authentic person.”  Board Vice President Caroline Cummings said.  Board President Lauren Keavney liked Hanson’s communication skills.  “She conveyed her thoughts incredibly well,” Keavney said. “But she also actively listened to the conversation we were having.  I think that will make her the collaborative leader we’re looking for.
