St. Charles Public Library District
The Board of Trustees of the St. Charles Public Library District are looking for a compassionate and creative new Director. The recently renovated and expanded, art-filled Library is situated in downtown
St. Charles, near the beautiful Fox River.

must be both empathetic and resolute. They must have a sense of humor, strive for transparency, be flexible, and build on the strengths of an excellent staff. Key to this role is continuing established connections with civic partners and the open dialogue the Library enjoys with community stakeholders.
About the St. Charles Public Library District
The Library serves 55,000 patrons from in town and across the District. The majority of the 100 team members are in the midst of union negotiations and the next Director needs to prioritize establishing and strengthening these relationships. Key to this role is continuing connections with civic partners and an open dialogue with community stakeholders. The current
strategic plan is ready to sunset with the new Director leading that process as well as developing the Library’s next strategic plan. The Library is also supported by active Friends and Foundation groups.
The Director reports
to a 7 member, elected Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program with 5 years of related work and 3 years of supervisory experience.
The candidate must possess a high level of emotional intelligence, keen awareness of library fiscal matters, and strong leadership capabilities. They must provide the proper setting for the recruitment, development, and evaluation of patron-focused employees and they must maintain a healthy work environment where employees are able to be their best selves. The Director must have top-notch communication skills and set a good example for professional development through attendance of workshops, conferences, and continuing education opportunities.
Salary, Benefits & How to Apply
This is a full-time, exempt position at a minimum salary of $115,000.00, depending upon qualifications. The Library also offers a generous benefits package including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
